devastating news

Ohio families were hit yesterday with devastating news. OhioAmerican Energy, Inc. announced they will be closing their mining operations in Brilliant, OH and 239 American jobs will be lost thanks to over-regulations and President Obama’s “War on Coal.” What is even more devastating to Ohio families is that their own representative Betty Sutton would support these policies which have destroyed jobs for 239 of their fellow Ohioans.

This isn’t the first time Betty Sutton picked Barack Obama’s energy policies over Ohio families:

• In June 2009, Betty Sutton voted for Cap and Trade saying the bill will lead to good-paying jobs and added, “let there be no mistake, this is a jobs bill.” But a June 26, 2009, editorial by The Wall Street Journal said, “Americans should know that those Members who vote for this climate bill are voting for what is likely to be the biggest tax in American history. Even Democrats can’t repeal that reality.”

• Barack Obama even said in 2008 that coal-fired power plants would be forced to purchase expensive emission allocations under this proposed cap-and-trade program for global warming and thus bankrupting the coal industry. “‘So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted,’ he said, according to a transcript of the remarks.” (CongressNow, Nov. 3, 2008)

NRCC Statement: “Betty Sutton has been a top supporter of President Obama’s anti-Ohio jobs energy agenda. Her votes for his radical energy policies are taxing and over regulating Ohio companies out of business.” – NRCC Spokeswoman Katie Prill
