Study: Loretta Sanchez’s Stimulus Failure Leaves California Barreling Toward Economic Disaster

California Faces Jobless Recovery as Democrats’ $1 Trillion Stimulus Fails to Yield Results

Washington- In a recent study released by the Pew Center on the States, California is highlighted as one of 10 states facing economic disaster. California currently faces daunting unemployment rates of 12.2 percent, high foreclosure rates and budget restraints, all of which stand in the way of economic recovery. According to the study, government actions such as increased taxes will only catapult California into further recession and jobless recovery. Unfortunately for Californians, Democrat Loretta Sanchez never received that message, rubber-stamping her party’s ‘stimulus’ boondoggle that has failed to yield real results and is paving the way for higher taxes. While other states may slowly move towards economic recovery, Californians have a roadblock named Loretta Sanchez to blame for standing in their way.

“Drastic financial remedies are no longer limited to California, where a historic budget crisis earlier this year grew so bad that state agencies issued IOUs to pay bills.

“A study released Wednesday warned that at least nine other big states are also barreling toward economic disaster, raising the likelihood of higher taxes, more government layoffs and deep cuts in services.

The report by the Pew Center on the States found that Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island and Wisconsin are also at grave risk. Double-digit budget gaps, rising unemployment, high foreclosure rates and built-in budget constraints are the key reasons.” (Judy Lin, “Report: 10 states face looming budget disasters,” Associated Press, 11/11/2009)

Loretta Sanchez’s negligence will have dramatic consequences for workers and families in California and across the nation:

“These states’ budget troubles can have dramatic consequences for their residents: higher taxes, layoffs or furloughs of state workers, longer waits for public services, more crowded classrooms, higher college tuition and less support for the poor or unemployed. But they also pose challenges for the country as a whole. The 10 states account for more than a third of America’s population and economic output. And actions taken by state governments to balance their budgets—such as tax increases and drastic spending cuts—can slow down the nation’s economic recovery.” (“Beyond California States in Fiscal Peril,” The Pew Study on the State’s, November 2009)

“As California’s economy teeters on the brink of disaster, taxpayers will rightfully point the finger at Loretta Sanchez for rubber-stamping an agenda of more government spending and higher taxes,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “Sanchez and her party bosses have sent California’s economy into a downward spiral, forcing families to deal with unprecedented unemployment rates, rampant foreclosures, and economic peril. Rather than focusing on rebuilding California’s economy, Sanchez continues to support her party’s reckless push for further economic disarray.”
