Will Dina Titus Continue Her Party’s Empty Jobs Rhetoric?
Democrats Push Another Quick-Fix Jobs Bill Despite the Dismal Stimulus Results
Washington- As Americans continue to feel the pinch of high unemployment and a struggling economy, Democrats continue to deliver the same tired rhetoric that they’ve relied on for the past year. In his State of the Union address, President Obama repeatedly emphasized the importance of job creation and putting Americans back to work. Unfortunately, it’s not the first time struggling middle-class Nevada families have heard these empty promises from Washington Democrats. Dina Titus and her party leaders promised their quick-fix ‘stimulus’ was going to lead to economic recovery and job creation. But one year later, the outlook is still grim for the middle class. The question needs to be asked: Will Dina Titus continue to use her party’s empty jobs rhetoric?
“’People are out of work. They are hurting. They need our help. I want a jobs bill on my desk without delay,’ the president said during his State of the Union speech.’” (Jeanne Cummings, “Economists: Jobs fix won’t be quick,” Politico, 1/27/2010)
Not surprisingly, the Democrats’ rhetoric sounds exactly the same as it did one year ago:
“’Only eight days after the President took the oath of office, the House passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act that will create and save 3 to 4 million jobs, cut taxes for 95 percent of American workers and make smart investments that will strengthen our economy for the long-term.
“’In his Inaugural Address, President Obama pledged, ‘action, bold and swift…not only to create new jobs, but to lay a foundation for growth.’ Congress will deliver on the President’s pledge by quickly sending the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to his desk.’” (“Pelosi: Today’s Report on Economy’s Contraction Underscores Need to Pass Economic Recovery Package,” Speaker Pelosi Press Release, 1/30/2009)
Economists aren’t buying the Democrats’ rhetoric and Nevada families won’t either:
“President Barack Obama’s job-creation program could produce a short-term political boost, but it’s unlikely to significantly stem job losses and reduce the unemployment rate anytime soon, according to economists.”
“’He’s trying to turn his microeconomic policies into some macroeconomic solution. He’s grasping at straws,’ said Peter Morici, an economist at the University of Maryland.” (Jeanne Cummings, “Economists: Jobs fix won’t be quick,” Politico, 1/27/2010)
“After struggling for the past year, middle-class Nevada families are still waiting for real answers while Washington Democrats continue to kick around the same tired anti-jobs policies that have driven the economy off a cliff,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “With almost 3.4 million jobs lost since Dina Titus first approved her party’s so-called stimulus bill, it’s abundantly clear that the Democrats’ quick-fix economic policies are a failure. After rubber-stamping her party’s first economic flop, will Titus continue pushing their empty rhetoric?”
