Dems Oppose Energy Solutions that Create Jobs, Lower Gas Prices
California Democrat Votes Against Ending the De Facto Moratorium on Domestic Energy Production
Washington — Jerry McNerney had another opportunity today to support responsible domestic energy production, but instead he voted to continue clamping down on American energy at a time when middle-class families in California need relief the most. McNerney’s misguided anti-energy policies have cost tens of thousands of jobs and will result in declining domestic energy production as producers continue to move their projects to foreign countries.
“Jerry McNerney today supported out-of-touch policies that have destroyed thousands of American energy jobs and sent them overseas,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “As California families and businesses feeling the pain at the pump look to McNerney for help with the burden of skyrocketing gas prices, it is clear he instead sides with his Washington Democrat allies who will continue to stifle American energy and increase our dependence on foreign oil. “
Even some fellow Democrats such as former Tennessee Rep. Harold Ford, Jr. and former President Bill Clinton are calling these policies “ridiculous”:
“In the year since the Deepwater Horizon spill, the Obama administration has put in place what is effectively a permanent moratorium on deep water drilling. It stretched out the approval process for some Gulf-region drilling permits to more than nine months, lengths that former President Bill Clinton has called ‘ridiculous.'”
McNerney voted against the “Putting the Gulf Back to Work Act” today (H.R. 1229, Roll Call Vote #309, Passed: 263-163; R 235-0, D 28-163, 5/11/11).
Despite the obvious negative impacts, Jerry McNerney voted again today to maintain his anti-energy policies even though middle-class families in California need relief the most right now. Since McNerney insists on stifling American production, energy jobs will continue to leave the country and our dependency on foreign oil will only get worse.
