Washington — With unemployment in North Carolina rising to 9.9% in June, it is clear that middle-class families are still struggling in this terrible economy. In spite of these dismal numbers, Heath Shuler continues to advocate for the same big-government policies small businesses are condemning for directly crushing their desperately needed job creation efforts.
“The continuing dismal state of the economy and complaints from small businesses should have been a huge wake-up call for Heath Shuler a long time ago,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Instead of acting quickly to institute the pro-growth policies that middle-class families in North Carolina need, Shuler is still pushing for even more taxing, spending, borrowing and red tape that stifle the ability for small businesses to create jobs.”

A recent U.S. Chamber of Commerce survey of small businesses shows blame for the lack of job creation opportunities is leveled directly at the Democrats’ failed big-government policies:
“More than eight out of 10 small business owners said the U.S. economy is ‘on the wrong track,’ the survey said.”
“The country’s growing debt and deficit, healthcare reform law, over regulation, and high taxes also topped the worry lists of small business owners, according to the survey.”
“Small business owners also overwhelmingly wanted Washington to just ‘get out of the way.'”

However, Shuler has still shown no signs of abandoning the job-destroying spending spree that he and his fellow Washington Democrats have championed for years.
