Will McNerney Repeat History and Disregard Constituents’ Concerns over a Weak Economy and Endless Spending?
Democrats Already Lashing Out at Calls to Have the Government Live Within Its Means

Washington — California Democrat Jerry McNerney is now heading home for August recess amidst the increasing frustration he and his party leaders feel under the pressure to finally end their spending and borrowing spree. In August of 2009, McNerney’s Democrat colleagues lashed out whenever constituents objected to their government takeover of healthcare townhalls. With his fellow Democrats already denigrating constituents who want solutions for the country’s skyrocketing debt, will McNerney listen to their concerns or repeat history and simply dismiss their concerns?

“As Jerry McNerney continues his spirited defense of a failed Democrat spending spree, he is neglecting the very serious concerns his constituents have with the weak economy that has been fueled by his party’s job-destroying policies,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Since McNerney’s spending addiction forces the government to borrow $4 billion every day, he should listen to worried middle-class families in California rather than dismiss and disregard them like many of his desperate Democrat colleagues already have.”

Many Democrats, frustrated at how unpopular their failed spending spree has become, are already lashing out at the increasing number of Americans who object to their big-government policies:

“Vice President Joe Biden joined House Democrats in lashing tea party Republicans Monday, accusing them of having ‘acted like terrorists’ in the fight over raising the nation’s debt limit, according to several sources in the room.

“‘We have negotiated with terrorists,’ an angry [Rep. Mike] Doyle [D-PA] said, according to sources in the room. ‘This small group of terrorists have made it impossible to spend any money.'” (Jonathan Allen and John Bresnahan, “Sources: Biden likened tea partiers to ‘terrorists,'” Politico, 8/1/11)

Jerry McNerney has an opportunity to finally listen to the concerns from California families who continue to see government debt heaped onto their children and grandchildren as a result of his failed big-government policies. However, it remains to be seen whether McNerney will simply lash out at reasonable critics like his desperate Democrat colleagues already have.
