Here They Go Again: Will Shuler Join Obama’s Demand for Even Higher Job-Crushing Taxes?
President Obama Doubles Down on Job-Destroying Taxes, Knowing the Economic Consequences

Washington — North Carolina Democrat Heath Shuler’s party leaders continue to demonstrate that their main plan going forward is higher taxes that will destroy jobs and make a bad economy worse. If Shuler wants to create jobs for middle-class families in North Carolina who urgently need them, the worst thing he could do is support higher taxes to fuel even more government spending as President Obama promised yesterday.

“In joining with his Democrat leaders’ calls for even higher job-crushing taxes, Heath Shuler would only make a bad economy even worse for North Carolina’s middle-class families,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Shuler’s Democrat leaders have made it increasingly clear that in the end, their main priority is to fuel their addiction to government spending with even more job-destroying taxes when Americans can afford them the least.”

President Obama yesterday focused the Democrats’ agenda moving forward on job-destroying tax increases and dismissed serious spending reform:

“Now, we do have to pay for these things. And in order to pay for these things, Congress has to finish the job of reducing the nation’s budget deficit in a sensible, responsible way. Not just with more cuts this year or next year — those cuts would weaken the economy more than it already is, and we’ve already cut a trillion dollars in what’s called discretionary spending.” (President Barack Obama, “Remarks by the President at Johnson Controls, Inc.,” 8/11/11)

President Obama himself said raising taxes during a bad economy is the “last thing you want to do” just two years ago, but the Democrats have since forgotten this message:

“…the last thing you want to do is raise taxes in the middle of a recession because that would just suck up – take more demand out of the economy and put business further in a hole.” (Stephen F. Hayes, “Obama vs. Obama,” The Weekly Standard‘s Blog, 7/11/11)

If Heath Shuler decides to demand job-crushing tax hikes along with his Democrat leaders, he will only make a bad economy worse. It seems that Shuler’s fellow Democrats calling for higher taxes are so desperate to fuel their spending addiction that they are willing to double down on their failed policies at the cost of American jobs and families.
