Is Shuler “Proud” of the Failed Shuler-Obama Record on Jobs?
Democrat Party Chair Says Democrats “Across the Country” are “Proud” of Their Leadership While Polls Show the Exact Opposite

Washington — Middle-class Americans increasingly realize a new direction is needed to create jobs, but North Carolina Democrat Heath Shuler’s party leaders are patting themselves on the back for their policies’ disastrous results instead. Democrat Party Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) even claimed this weekend that “Democrats and middle-class Americans across the country” are “proud of” their record on job creation, as unemployment continues to remain over nine percent and fears of a double-dip recession rise. Is Heath Shuler really “proud” of President Obama’s leadership, in stark contrast to what voters are saying?

“Heath Shuler and his fellow Democrats are increasingly out of touch with American families who continue to struggle under the burden of their disastrous policies that are making a bad economy worse,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Since his Democrat leaders are inexplicably patting themselves on the back for unemployment exceeding nine percent and the prospect of a double-dip recession, is Shuler also ‘proud of’ President Obama’s record on job-creation?”

The Chair of the Democrat Party claimed Democrats “across the country” are “proud” of President Obama’s leadership on the economy:

ANDREA MITCHELL: …[W]hat he’s running against is an unemployment rate hovering around nine percent, and widespread concerns about a second recession. So the President’s record is the one that is going to have to be defended.

REP. DEBBIE WASSERMAN SCHULTZ: Well, I’m proud of the President’s record as are Democrats and middle-class Americans across the country. (MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” 8/13/11)

This is stunningly out of touch with what middle-class Americans are actually thinking:

“Just nine percent of Americans think the economy ‘is starting to recover from the problems it faced in the past year or so,’ down from 24 percent in April.” (Steven Shepard, “CNN/ORC International Poll: Majority Thinks Economy Will Worsen,” National Journal‘s Hotline On Call Blog, 8/8/11)

“The Reuters/Ipsos poll found 73 percent of Americans believe the United States is ‘off on the wrong track,’ and just one in five, 21 percent, think the country is headed in the right direction.” (Xavier Briand, “Most Americans say U.S. on wrong track: poll,” Reuters, 8/10/11)

“President Obama’s summer woes have dragged his approval rating to an all-time low, sinking below 40% for the first time in Gallup’s daily tracking poll.” (Michael A. Memoli, “Gallup: Obama job rating sinks below 40% for first time,” Los Angeles TimesPolitics Now Blog, 8/14/11)

Instead of listening to middle-class families and small businesses, Heath Shuler and his fellow Democrat leaders seem poised to double down on their failed record. If Heath Shuler shares his party leaders’ view that President Obama’s leadership on the economy is something to be proud of, it would be in very stark contrast to middle-class families in North Carolina struggling under its consequences.
