Nancy Pelosi Announces Utah Democrat’s Support for Unpopular Proposal that Stifles Job Creation

Washington — Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday offered the unequivocal support of her fellow House Democrats for President Obama’s embattled and widely criticized budget proposal, which would seem to include Jim Matheson since he has not expressed any strong disagreement. This is yet another sign that Matheson and his fellow House Democrats will continue to march lock-step with President Obama and Nancy Pelosi’s hugely unpopular plans, rather than face the fact that this budget proposal does nearly nothing to slow the worsening fiscal catastrophe or spur job creation.

“In light of Jim Matheson’s reluctance to take a stand against the President’s deficit-inducing proposal, Nancy Pelosi made it clear that Matheson and his Democrat allies will continue to support their agenda of more taxing, spending and borrowing,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “On the crucial issue of reining in our exploding deficit which continues to burden the economy and slow new job creation, Matheson seems content to let Nancy Pelosi lead us down the same reckless path she has pursued for the past two years.”

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi declared that House Democrats stood behind the President’s budget plan in a speech on the House floor on Tuesday:

“Instead, we support President Obama’s budget to out innovate, out educate and out build the rest of the world.” (Pelosi floor remarks, 2/15/2011)

Clearly, lacking a strong call for a return to fiscal sanity from Matheson means that he will continue to march in line with Nancy Pelosi and President Obama’s plans to change little about the impending fiscal disaster and lagging employment numbers. Jim Matheson is missing yet another opportunity to show his Utah constituents that he stands up for them instead of bending to the will of his Democrat leaders like Nancy Pelosi.
