a new campaign strategy?

October 23, 2012

Is hiding the new David Gill for Congress campaign strategy?  Since the media circus surrounding his hypocritical flip flop on taking money from the DCCC, his embarrassing post-debate press conference and his shocking tele-press conference where he hung up unexpectedly on reporters, David Gill has been MIA.

Now, Gill is cancelling campaign events as we move into the last two weeks of the campaign. Just this week he has cancelled a radio debate on Monday, cancelled his appearance on WSOY this morning and now is backing out of a scheduled radio debate on WTAX this Friday. Looks like someone still can’t answer the tough questions.

“Although Davis and independent candidate John Hartman did a one-hour live show on WBGZ on Monday morning, Gill did not appear. Mark Ellebracht, the news director at the station, said the Gill campaign notified the station last week that it would do no debates beyond the three already scheduled: at Illinois State University last week, in downtown Springfield on Wednesday night and at Urbana television station WILL on Nov. 1. Gill spokeswoman Lucy Stein said the candidate won’t be at the WTAX joint appearance either. (News-Gazette, 10.23.12)

That’s a 180 from his previous position:

Everyone in this district deserves the right to question me about my platform. – David Gill, February 2, 2012

NRCC Statement: “David Gill is proving to be a true politician who says one thing but does another for political gain. At least Illinois families didn’t have to send him to Washington to find out that campaign promises are just broken promises to David Gill.” – NRCC Spokeswoman Katie Prill
