Polling Memo: Happy Anniversary to Obama’s Stimulus
Obama’s Stimulus: In Retrospect
This week marks the fourth anniversary of Obama’s $800 billion dollar stimulus package which he purposed to “lay the groundwork for long-term sustained economic growth.”1 Four years later, here’s where we are today:
First, sixty percent of voters deem the stimulus a failure, saying it “hasn’t worked” and was not “a good use of taxpayer money.”
Second, despite the President wanting more of the same spend and stimulate action, sixty-one percent of voters oppose the “government passing another economic stimulus spending plan.”
Third, due to the repercussions of Obama’s failed Stimulus, an average of 56% of voters in battleground districts nationwide say they are less likely to vote for a candidate who supported/supports Obama’s stimulus plan.2
Sorry, President Obama, it looks like the legacy left by your Stimulus is an anniversary voters won’t be celebrating.
