Want To Reschedule Your Canceled WH Tour? That’ll Be $500,000

March 5, 2013

The White House announced today that, as of this Saturday, all public tours are canceled. These free, self-guided tours were offered through congressional offices as a way to tour “The People’s House.”

The White House, however, is blaming sequestration as the culprit.

“Due to staffing reductions resulting from sequestration, we regret to inform you that White House Tours will be canceled effective Saturday, March 9, 2013 until further notice.  Unfortunately, we will not be able to reschedule affected tours.”

So it seems that the only way to get inside the White House these days is to donate $500,000 to Organizing for Action—the President’s former campaign committee.

That’s right. The White House—playing politics with Obama’s sequester—has canceled the free, public tours to a historical institution that belongs to “We the People.” The only thing that remains are the $500k “meetings.”

What’s particularly galling about this whole affair is this letter from President Obama, which can be found on the White House website.

“In our country, the halls of government are not reserved for a privileged few, and the President’s workplace should be no exception.”

President Obama’s hypocrisy is actually not that shocking. He has played politics with the sequester from the beginning and has broken numerous of his own promises in search of campaign cash.

Hope you enjoy that White House tour – it ain’t cheap.
