Scamming Seniors With ObamaCare
Seniors across the country are facing a drastic increase in Medicare scams due to the fact that many Americans and their families still are in the dark about ObamaCare’s many provisions and changes in coverage.
As if ObamaCare’s high taxes and job-crushing employer penalties weren’t enough!
Medicare scammers, who are taking advantage of this confusion, are targeting seniors with promises of fake ObamaCare coverage in the hopes they can obtain personal financial information such as bank account numbers, social security numbers, and home addresses.
According to Kaiser Health News, insurance scams are up 12% from the previous year. Recent polls are showing that more than half of Americans STILL don’t understand how ObamaCare and its new health requirements and provisions will affect them and their families.
“Crooks are playing on that confusion. Confusion is a crook’s best friend,” says James Quiggle, communications director at the Coalitions Against Insurance Fraud.
“I kind of thought it was funny at first, and then I thought, you know, how dare they?” says Evelyn Lois Such, a senior who was targeted. “There are some seniors who aren’t well and don’t think as well as they used to, and it just made me angry that they would be victimized like this.”
Sally Hume, a lawyer for AARP said that as more is uncovered about the law, the scams will most likely increase.
Just another disappointment from the $1.8 billion tax known as ObamaCare.
