Politico: Scandal-Shocked House Democrats Fear For 2014

May 20, 2013

The last few weeks chock-full of Washington scandals have focused the spotlight directly on the Obama Administration. Yet, what’s not been fully covered is what effect it will have on 2014, specifically down ballot. As House Democrats ready themselves for a midterm fight, Obama’s trifecta of scandals have them shaking in their liberal boots.

Politico’s Alex Isenstadt is reporting this morning that Democrats are clearly fearful that the White House’s struggles will motivate conservative voters and lead to defeat next November.

“Democrats aiming to retake the House next year against all odds tried to reassure themselves after President Barack Obama’s week from hell: The election is still 18 months away, plenty of time for Republicans to turn today’s gift into tomorrow’s albatross.

‘Yet the anxiety within party ranks heading into a midterm already heavily stacked in the GOP’s favor is all too palpable.”

Isenstadt goes on to write that voters could very well see Republicans as a check on a “White House run amok.”

It’s clear these scandals have Democrats on their heels. But we cannot let up now. President Obama has made retaking the House his number one goal in 2014. There’s nothing he’d like more than Nancy Pelosi back in the Speaker’s chair, standing ready to cement a liberal legacy for the final two years of his presidency.
