Kuster Cuts Critical Care to Our Most Vulnerable
Note from NRCC Policy Director, Jordan Davis:
ObamaCare’s 14% cut to Home Health Care is jeopardizing access to health care for our most vulnerable seniors and costing home health jobs. But there may be one more result of this ObamaCare home health care cut…costing the jobs of vulnerable House Democrats.
Seniors receiving home health care services through Medicare are generally the oldest, poorest, and sickest of the Medicare population. They are also predominately women and minorities. In fact, 3.5 million of our nation’s most vulnerable seniors will be negatively impacted by this ObamaCare cut. Additionally, jobs are being lost across the country with 500,000 jobs at risk. Check out seniors’ access to home health care by state as well as home health care jobs by state that are being affected by this latest ObamaCare cut.
Below, you can see the impact of the cut in these DCCC Frontline districts. The cut will result in negative margins for home health agencies in these districts and therefore negatively impact home health care providers and seniors in these districts.
House Democrats who continue to support ObamaCare are to blame for this cut to home health care services. We’ll be sure to inform seniors and voters who will hold them to account.

Home Healthcare Cuts Hitting New Hampshire Seniors Hard
WASHINGTON – Everyone knows President Obama’s failed healthcare law has raised premiums, cut Medicare, and canceled plans across the country. But what many are not talking about is ObamaCare’s drastic cuts to home healthcare programs in Medicare—a 14 percent cut impacting 3.5 million seniors across the country.
Annie Kuster has put the poorest and sickest seniors in New Hampshire at risk because she steadfastly supports this failed law. This is a program they depend on to get critical medical care. According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, nearly 40 percent of home healthcare companies could go out of business. That, of course, doesn’t mean just seniors’ care will suffer, but many Americans will see their jobs lost.
“Annie Kuster’s support for cuts to home healthcare is leaving our most vulnerable seniors and their families left to fend for themselves,” said NRCC Communications Director Andrea Bozek. “Kuster promised to stand up for seniors, but all she’s doing is standing up for her party’s drastic cuts to programs seniors count on.”
Washington Examiner: “ObamaCare Forcing 14 Percent Cut In Medicare’s Home Health Care Program. “An estimated 3.5 million poor and ill homebound senior citizens will wake up on New Year’s Day to discover Obamacare has slashed funding for their home health care program. It will happen because the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services quietly issued a regulation Nov. 22 announcing a 14-percent cut over the next four years in funding for the Home Health Care Prospective Payment program.” (Richard Pollock, “Obamacare forcing 14 percent cut in Medicare’s home health care program,” Washington Examiner, 12/12/13)
