Democrats in Disarray – Steve Israel vs. The DCCC

It’s bad enough Democrats have to run with the train wreck that is Obamacare hung around their necks, but now it looks like they are going to be burdened with another train wreck – the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Last week the DCCC went completely off the rails and accused Iraq War veteran Lee Zeldin of being a “coward.” They even went so far as to send him a Cowardly Lion badge of courage and to photoshop his face on the Wizard of Oz’s lion.

This led to two days of shaming in the press until late Friday evening, when Zeldin’s opponent – Tim Bishop – and DCCC Chairman Steve Israel issued too-little, too-late statements through spokespeople condemning the DCCC’s attacks.

Apparently the DCCC didn’t get wind of its chairman’s condemnation, because the attacks were still online well into the next afternoon. It was only after this was posted on the NRCC website that the DCCC quietly deleted the attacks from its website and itsspokesman’s Twitter feed.

But the DCCC has still not apologized, despite the condemnation from Israelin his official role as Congressman.

So the irony here is clear – since calling Lee Zeldin a “coward,” the DCCC showed everyone what that word means.

NRCC Comment: “Washington liberals have created such a culture of contempt towards our veterans that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee thought nothing of calling Iraq War veteran and 82nd Airbone paratrooper Lee Zeldin a ‘coward.’ Ironically, it was Tim Bishop, Steve Israel, and the DCCC that were ultimately forced to surrender to Zeldin and the way in which they did so was anything but courageous.” – NRCC Spokesman Ian Prior
