Watch This Story About A 93-Year-Old Veteran Parachuting Into Normandy On 70th Anniversary of D-Day

June 6, 2014

70 years ago James Martin landed on the beaches of Normandy.  In fact, James was among the first Allied groups in Europe. “They called us the tip of the spear,” James told CBS news.

At the age of 93, he commemorated D-Day by parachuting – again – onto the beaches of Normandy. James describes his experience of parachuting into France on June 6, 1944 as “fascinating”.

He also recounts having to accept the reality everyday that his life could easily be taken.

Americans admire the tenacity and ambition of veterans like James Martin, and his determined grit to parachute back into Normandy 70 years later. “I’m not usually looking for records or anything, but that would give me a great deal of satisfaction,” James said.

As you celebrate D-Day, keep in mind those American heroes who dedicated their lives to serve this great country.
