5 Reasons Why We’re Still Confused About The Situation Between David Atkins and Julia Brownley
In case you missed it, the Los Angeles Times asked Julia Brownley’s campaign yesterday what they thought of Ventura County Democrats Chairman David Atkins hate-fueled, offensive tweets. A spokesman for her campaign admitted that Brownley thinks they were a “distraction” and “inappropriate,” but now we’re even MORE confused, because:
-
David Atkins has not apologized for, or even walked-back, the hate-filled tweets.
-
Julia Brownley has not asked David Atkins to walk back and apologize for the tweets.
-
The offensive and disgusting tweets are still on the Internet for all to see.
-
David Atkins is still listed as a prominent endorser on Julia Brownley’s campaign website.
-
David Atkins is still the Chairman of the Ventura County Democrats.
If Julia Brownley admits the comments were inappropriate, why are they still standing? Why is there no apology from anyone? Why hasn’t Atkins’ walked back his statement to the Ventura County Star that “I make no apologies?” Why did he refuse to talk to the Los Angeles Times? And why does Julia Brownley still have no problem allying herself with Atkins on her website?
The only remorse that the Ventura Democrats are feeling is the remorse that they got caught. Despite Julia Brownley’s campaign’s muted attempt at leadership, the status quo still rules the day.
We’re still calling on David Atkins to apologize for his racist, vitriolic rant, and – if he can’t bring himself to see how wrong and hateful his comments are – resign from his position as the Chairman of the Ventura County Democrats. We encourage Julia Brownley to step up as a leader, and join us and condemn his hate-filled ranting as well.
NRCC Comment: “Despite Julia Brownley’s campaign’s muted attempt to make this go away, David Atkins’ hate-filled comments are still standing. There has been no apology, and the offensive tweets from the Ventura County Democrats Chairman are still live on the Internet for all to see. We urge Brownley to step up as a leader and join us in calling for Atkins to apologize and resign from his position as the leader of the Ventura Democrats.” – Andrew Clark, NRCC Digital Press Secretary
