To the left, to the left
May 6, 2015
Only weeks after announcing, DFL candidate in MN-02 Angie Craig is already running to the left, to the left in hopes of winning the party endorsement next year. In an interview with mnpACT!, Craig outlined a platform so liberal it would make Elizabeth Warren blush. Here are a couple highlights:
- On abortion, Craig seems to be taking her cues from DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, staking out a position in which she appears to oppose any and all restrictions on abortion. Does that include partial birth abortions as well?
- On trade, Craig opposes the Trans Pacific Partnership and the economic benefits that would come with it.
- On healthcare, Craig is “firmly in support” of Obamacare, despite the 140,000 Minnesotans who lost their healthcare plans due to the law.
With nearly a year to go until the MN DFL endorses, Democrats should be worried that Angie Craig is taking the MN-02 DFL primary so far left so quickly. One has to wonder if Craig’s DLF opponent Mary Lawrence will respond by moving even further to the leftward fringe.
