Partisan Lon Johnson really isn’t thinking of running for MI-01, is he?
According to MIRS, Lon Johnson is thinking about running against Dr. Dan Benishek in Michigan’s 1st Congressional District. If Lon’s name sounds familiar, you may recognize it from when he lost his campaign for state House in 2012. Or maybe you recognize his name from his current position as Michigan Democratic Party Chairman. Under his not-so-bold leadership, Democrats lost the race for governor, attorney general, secretary of state, a state Senate seat and four seats in the state House.
Johnson is also the husband of Barack Obama’s Deputy Campaign manager and fundraiser in Michigan. In 2012, Obama lost the 1st District 54% to 45%. And according to Real Clear Politics, a majority of Michiganders disapprove of President Obama’s job performance. (But it’s not like Republicans will tie Johnson to Obama or anything like that…)
