Collin Peterson gets crossways with the Farm Bureau

June 10, 2015

Last night, by opposing the reauthorization of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Collin Peterson got crossways with not just the American Farm Bureau, but also many other agriculture groups who supported the bill because of the vital protections it affords farmers.

By opposing the bill, Peterson voted against protecting farmers and ranchers from excessive and costly regulations that make it harder for businesses to operate and to effectively manage risk.

Here’s just a few of the groups who think Peterson voted the wrong way:

-American Farm Bureau Federation
-Minnesota Grain and Feed Association
-National Cattlemen’s Beef Association
-American Feed Industry Association
-US Chamber of Commerce
-North American Export Grain Association

You can find the full list here.

Why is Peterson ignoring the best interests of Minnesota farmers and the counsel of the agriculture groups like the Farm Bureau that support them?

“Instead of standing up for Minnesota farmers, Collin Peterson chose to vote with Nancy Pelosi and liberal special interests. By opposing a bill supported by the American Farm Bureau and many other agriculture groups, Peterson has signaled his first priority is making his party leaders happy.” – NRCC Spokesman Zach Hunter
