Does Gwen Graham Support Barack Obama’s Veto Threat of Defense Bill?

With President Barack Obama threatening to veto the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), will Gwen Graham stand up for military families by calling on the president to stand down? The president is threatening to veto the legislation “as part of a larger budget debate” that is unrelated to military personnel and their families. The budget discussion is a rouse for the president considering the current NDAA budget and President Obama’s budget both land at $612 billion.

“Gwen Graham needs to publicly call on President Obama to stand down on his veto threat to a bill that has been signed into law for over 50 years in a row,” said NRCC Communications Director Katie Martin. “The last thing our brave soldiers and their families should be worried about is whether or not their Commander in Chief is playing politics with their livelihood.”

Later today, Speaker John Boehner will formally sign the bipartisan NDAA, which passed the House and Senate earlier this month.  Once the bill is presented to President Obama he will have a ten day window in which to review and act on the bill.

The NDAA is critical in ensuring that the men and women of our military and their families receive the funding they have rightfully earned. It also includes a pay raise for military personnel, provides new protections for victims of military sexual assaults and includes suicide prevention services.

The NDAA passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 270 to 156.  It passed the Senate by a vote of 70 to 27.
