And here’s this week’s edition of the NRCC Weekly Rundown:
National: New revelations in the Hillary Clinton email scandal revealed that a former Clinton aide had been granted immunity for his cooperation with the FBI investigation. Will House Democrats support Clinton as the criminal probe closes in on her and her top aides?
National: In honor of the Oscars, the NRCC paid tribute to the DCCC’s favorite movies, including The Wolf of Wall Street, starring Hillary Clinton and Con Air starring Joe Garcia.
CA-07: Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi rode to the rescue for Rep. Ami Bera. Despite no primary opposition, local activists declined to endorse Bera. He received the backing from the state party only after a plea from Pelosi.

CA-25: The DCCC’s handpicked candidate, Bryan Caforio, was denied an endorsement at the California Democrats’ convention last weekend. The party instead voted to endorse local favorite, LAPD officer Lou Vince.
PA-08: Steve Santarsiero received the endorsement from the most liberal Governor in America, Gov. Tom Wolf. The NRCC asked if Santarsiero would endorse Wolf’s proposals for new taxes on things like diapers, textbooks, and caskets.
TX-23: Congratulations to Rep. Will Hurd, who easily won his primary on Tuesday. The NRCC released a memo detailing the current state of the race, which is favorable to Hurd.
NEWS AND NOTES:
Q&A: NRCC executive director Rob Simms
National Republican Congressional Committee Executive Director Rob Simms had a “pretty darn good night” Tuesday, he told POLITICO after his incumbents in Arkansas, Alabama and Texas swept their primaries. The victories soothed anxious hand-wringing that a record-setting presidential primary electorate might take some of its anger out on members of Congress in their first wave of 2016 primaries. READ
Bera doesn’t deserve re-election
Opportunists like Bera can’t understand that voters want something different from the business-as-usual public policy that simply hands more money to plutocrats. As a former supporter, I see no point in re-electing him. READ
Republicans Mock Carbajal Money Woes
This week, the National Republican Congressional Committee is sending Supervisor Salud Carbajal a basket filled with Personal Finance for Dummies, a calculator, and IRS forms after news broke that the congressional frontrunner has tens of thousands of dollars in credit card debt and past federal tax liens. Democrats easing target on Knight?
“Even with their handpicked carpet-bagging candidate Bryan Caforio in the race, the DCCC made it clear that they are waving the white flag in the 25th District,” said Zach Hunter, spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee. “By bringing in a wealthy Beverly Hills lawyer in an attempt to buy this seat, Washington Democrats angered local activists and knee-capped their own efforts to win here,” Hunter said. Rep. Martha McSally questions border-security data
Arizona Republican Rep. Martha McSally kicked off her leadership of a key House homeland-security subcommittee Tuesday by questioning the accuracy of federal government statistics on securing the southern border. McSally, taking over as chairwoman of the Border and Maritime Security Subcommittee of the House Homeland Security Committee, said Customs and Border Protection recently reported it was 81 percent effective on the Southwest border last year. Editorial: WWII women pilots gave mightily, deserve Arlington burial
U.S. Rep. Martha McSally – the Air Force’s first female fighter pilot to fly in combat – has introduced legislation to set this straight. The Arizona Republican’s bill has cleared committee and is headed to the House floor. We urge all members of Congress, especially those in Texas, to support it. READ
ZELDIN: “ENSURING FAIRNESS FOR OUR NATION’S VETERANS”
The Fairness for Veterans Act will allow veterans with less than honorable discharges to receive access to screening services at the VA for the purpose of diagnosing mental health disorders. This diagnosis is absolutely essential for the veteran as it will show that he or she received a service-connected injury that could explain why they were separated from the armed forces initially. Iran Deal Splits Democrats in Suburban Chicago US House Race
Almost immediately after Durbin’s fundraising email endorsed Rotering earlier this month, the National Republican Congressional Committee pounced, saying Democrats would be forced to “waste precious resources. Democrats’ worst fears about an expensive and bloody primary in IL-10 are coming true,” NRCC spokesman Zach Hunter said. READ
WirePOLITICS: Republican Congressional Committee questions candidates about closing Guantanamo Bay
“It is unconscionable for Steve Santarsiero and Shaughnessy Naughton to stand silently as President Obama moves forward with his irresponsible plan and puts safety of Americans at risk,” said NRCC communications director Katie Martin. “Steve Santarsiero and Shaughnessy Naughton need to start standing up for the American people instead of letting a lame duck president steamroll our national security as he heads toward the exit.” READ
