A new low: Randy Perkins tries censoring war hero Brian Mast

September 19, 2016

Randy Perkins has stooped to a new low. He’s now trying to silence war hero Brian Mast by having his attorneys demand that local FL-18 stations stop running Mast’s television ads.  According to The Palm Beach Post, “Mast’s new ad doesn’t say a word about Perkins.” Mast’s commercial focuses on his time serving as a combat soldier in Afghanistan where he lost both legs. Mast’s heroic actions earned him medals for valor, merit and sacrifice.
perkins-adPerkins’s legal threat comes as he simultaneously runs a distasteful digital ad making light of Mast’s injuries. Perkins’ ad shows Mast’s face superimposed over a cartoon gleefully dancing around on hills with other cartoon characters. Throughout the duration of the ad, the cartoon character of Mast is the only character whose lower body remains out of view.  If Perkins was conscientious enough about Mast’s injuries to keep him hidden is his cartoon ad, then he knows better than to stoop so low as to send the ad out in the first place – especially given how thin-skinned Perkins is.

NRCC Comment: “It’s only fitting that Randy Perkins would use the wealth made profiteering off of grief-stricken victims of natural disasters to try censoring Brian Mast from telling his story of heroism and bravery.  Randy Perkins has stooped to a new low by using his attorneys to bully a war hero like Brian Mast into censorship.” –NRCC Spokesman Chris Pack

Attorneys for Democratic congressional candidate Randy Perkins have sent a letter to local TV station managers saying “your station must immediately cease airing” a new ad by Republican candidate Brian Mast in the nationally watched race for Palm Beach-Treasure Coast District 18.

The Perkins legal team scored a victory last week when it persuaded stations to yank a National Republican Congressional Committee attack ad because of “false, misleading and deceptive” claims about Perkins’ disaster-relief business.

But Mast’s new ad doesn’t say a word about Perkins.

“I’m Brian Mast, combat veteran and candidate for Congress,” the 30-second spot begins.

“As a soldier in Afghanistan, I fought for every single one of you,” Mast continues. “I never cared about race, color, or if you were a Democrat or Republican. That’s the same way I’ll fight for you in Congress. Washington is broken. I know what’s on the line — our environment, our economy and our national security. Give me the honor of serving you again and I’ll do it selflessly and I’ll do it with courage. I’m Brian Mast, and I approved this because America will always be worth everything I have.”
