Loebsack not budging

June 21, 2017

In case you missed it – the only remaining insurer on Iowa’s Obamacare exchange just issued a reality check to those who believe Obamacare is still a sustainable law.

Paging Dave Loebsack.

After all other insurers pulled out of the Iowa Obamacare marketplace, Medica weighed their options. They concluded that in order to be able to stay in and not leave all Iowans on the exchange high and dry, they would have to increase their rates by an average of 43.5%. They also had some harsh words for the death-spiraling law.

Via The Hill:

“Because of the uncertainty surrounding ObamaCare, Medica will ask for 43.5 percent increases in its premiums, however.”

Medica’s VP Georff Bartsh: “Rate increases of 43 percent are not sustainable long-term. We know this will impact people who do not currently receive a subsidy particularly hard. The bottom line is that the individual market still needs reform.”

In case you were wondering, Dave Loebsack still supports Obamacare. He also made an ironic statement on repeal efforts only a month ago.

“The Republicans’ call for repeal without a clear plan has created needless uncertainty for providers, insurers and Iowans alike.”
