Democrats’ “Better Deal” Message Already Forgotten
Even former House Democrats agree, the Democrats’ 2018 message is forgettable.
Former Democratic Rep. Harold Ford Jr. (Tenn.) said Tuesday that the new initiative slogan launched by Democrats earlier this summer, promising a “better deal,” has been “forgotten.”
During “Morning Joe’s” 10th anniversary episode, host Joe Scarborough questioned why Democrats were still struggling with messaging, and have not seemed to make any gains since the election of President Donald Trump.
Scarborough paraphrased a FiveThirtyEight article published on Monday that said if the presidential election were to be held today, there would be no big difference in the state turnouts and results.
“We continue to lack in an economic message that appeals to majority of everyday Americans,” Ford said. “The Democrats put forward, with the leadership a few weeks ago, something called a ‘better deal,’ I think it’s been forgotten.”
The MSNBC host went on to joke about the “Better Deal” slogan, which has been made fun of by being compared to the Papa John’s slogan.
“Well actually, I think Arby’s picked it up,” Scarborough said. “They’re using it now.”
The slogan has been shown to have fallen flat with Democratic voters and was previously deemed “terrible” by Scarborough.
Co-host Mika Brzezinski was more serious.
“There isn’t a better deal,” Brzezinski said. “What’s the better deal?”
“So, the point is, no one knows, and I think it’s got to be more coherent and it’s got to be more pointed,” Harold Jr. said.
