Democrats around the country are turning on one another, with sitting Members of Congress drawing primaries from the left in California and Nevada already.
Is Arizona next?
The Arizona Republic writes: “Two dozen demonstrators upset with U.S. Rep. Tom O’Halleran, D-Ariz., gathered outside his Tucson office on Tuesday to make clear they think he went too far by voting in support of an anti-gang bill they see as promoting racial profiling.”
As O’Halleran takes fire from his own base in a competitive district that went for Trump last year, he simply can’t afford to lose any support and get re-elected.
So: will O’Halleran cave to his out-of-touch base and endorse policies that, for instance, empower gang members? Or will he ignore them and risk a primary challenge for his insubordination? We’ll be watching…
