NRCC Comms Director Matt Gorman: We Welcome A Debate on Single-Payer Health Care

July 31, 2018

WASHINGTON – NRCC Communications Director Matt Gorman joined Fox News’ Dana Perino to discuss a recent report that estimates single-payer health care would cost $32.6 trillion.

DANA PERINO: Matt, yesterday, Chuck Blahous over at Mercatus, he did a study about the idea of ‘Medicare For All,’ how much it would cost. It was about $32 trillion—that’s with a ‘T.’ Do you find that—not just in this race in Ohio—but is this issue of ‘Medicare For All’ becoming an issue that Republicans can use in their elections? And I’m going to ask Meredith the same question, go ahead.

NRCC COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR MATT GORMAN: Without a doubt. It has quickly become orthodoxy across the entire Democratic Party: members, candidates, even Nancy Pelosi supports single-payer health care. And, as you saw, $32 trillion in taxes—expect to see that in a lot of ads this fall—but that’s not the only thing it will do. It will also hasten Medicare’s insolvency, it will end Medicare Part D and the VA as we know it, and of course, it will give the government complete control of your doctor, prescriptions, and hospitals. That is simply unacceptable, and that is a fight we are looking to have in the fall.
