NRCC’s Matt Gorman: Once Thought Of As “An Automatic Pick Up,” Dems Now On Defense in FL-27
WASHINGTON – NRCC Communications Director Matt Gorman today joined Fox News’ Dana Perino to point out how outside spending is an indicator of where the battleground is during elections, and why Democrats should worry about their party pulling out of key races.
DANA PERINO: From your perspective, what do you think is going on for the NRCC? There was some good news, I should point out, that The Washington Post showed today — at least, I should say, good news for Republicans. Democrats at a 50%, Republicans at 47%, that’s basically a statistical tie. So, the Republicans have made up some ground in that perspective. Your thoughts?
MATT GORMAN: Well hi, Dana, thanks for having me. I’ll leave the punditry to Stirewalt and everybody who’s better-paid and smarter than me, but I think the truest test of where the battlefield is, is where the outside groups are spending money. Take Florida, for instance. You want to talk about Florida? How about FL-27? That was a district where Democrats thought that was an automatic pickup just a few weeks ago. Hillary won it by 20, now both parties are spending in that district. We released an ad today documenting Donna Shalala’s long, long career of scandal. So again, you want to talk also about triage and pulling back out of districts, Democrats pulled out of three districts which were thought to be top pickup opportunities: David Valadao’s, Don Bacon’s, and Will Hurd’s.
