Bustos’ DCCC runs false ad in CO
Cheri Bustos’ DCCC decided to drum up some publicity for their doomed effort against Rep. Scott Tipton with a small digital ad buy last weekend. Their problem? The ad was blatantly false.
Here’s what local press had to say about the DCCC’s false claims against Rep. Tipton:
Those ads, which are to be targeted to English and Spanish-speaking voters on Facebook, claim that Tipton hasn’t held an event open to the public as a congressman, rather than a political candidate, since March 2017.
Tipton’s campaign, however, said the congressman holds roundtables and public meetings all the time. Last month, for example, Tipton attended a roundtable meeting in Pueblo. Back in April, he was at a public meeting in Custer County, and was last in Grand Junction in January discussing opioid and heroin abuse.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee launched online ads claiming Tipton hasn’t listed a public constituent event on his website since early 2017…
Tipton has hosted public events since 2017; his website is outdated. On April 25, there was a public forum at a Westcliffe library, according to staff there. In March, he stopped in Grand Junction to discuss Western Slope energy. There was also a May 2018 town hall in Pueblo and a recent public conversation with veterans in Alamosa, according to his campaign.
NRCC Comment: “Maybe instead of blacklisting female political consultants, Cheri Bustos should focus on hiring folks to fact check the DCCC’s false ads.” – NRCC Spokesman Bob Salera
