NRCC Statement on Lynn Peterson
June 8, 2023
If you are covering Lynn Peterson’s announcement about her intention to run in the 5th Congressional district, please consider the following statement from the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC):
“After running Metro into the ground and getting fired by Washington State, failed bureaucrat Lynn Peterson is demanding an unearned promotion. Peterson has been an extreme tax and spend Portland politician, failing to address the homelessness crisis and contributing to the skyrocketing cost of living. Oregonians will re-elect Lori Chavez-DeRemer, who has proven to be a bipartisan problem solver.” – NRCC Spokesperson Ben Petersen
Background:
- Washington State fired Peterson over “cost overruns, management failures and project delays.” KIRO reported “Peterson’s tenure as transportation secretary was fraught with failure.”
- The Oregonian Editorial Board wrote that Peterson’s “poor decision-making has directly helped erode residents’ trust in Metro, alienate businesses and set back regional transportation ambitions” and called her decisions “baffling” and “strategically a disaster.”
