ICYMI: New York Democrats Have a Progressive Problem

In case you missed it…yesterday, Axios reported on the Democrats’ progressive problem. 

In crucial target seat New York’s seventeenth congressional district, extreme progressive Mondaire Jones is giving establishment Democrats heartburn. 

“After winning his first congressional election in 2020, Jones tweeted: “We must reimagine our criminal legal system” in a call to reduce mass incarceration. Notably, in his campaign kickoff video, he touts an endorsement from a local policeman who says he “funded the police.” Crime was the top issue for New York voters in last year’s midterms, as Republicans picked up three Democratic-held House seats in the Empire State despite an otherwise disappointing election.”

Mondaire Jones’s progressive record is the talk of the town in progressive circles, with The Nation magazine calling him “One of the most progressive members of the 117th Congress…”

One thing is for sure, Mondaire Jones is going to cause a messy Democrat primary that will ultimately be a race to the Left.
