NRCC Statement on VA-02 Primary Election
June 19, 2024
WASHINGTON – The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) released the following statement on Virginia’s 2nd congressional district Democrat primary election:
“Missy Cotter Smasal leaves the primary laden with baggage that will turn off Virginians, while facing the dreaded task of answering for Joe Biden’s failures. Republicans are eager to remind voters that Congresswoman Jen Kiggans has delivered bipartisan results for Hampton Roads’ veterans and seniors, and she’s made clear that she is a fighter who delivers for southeast Virginia families.” — NRCC Spokeswoman Delanie Bomar
Background:
- In her first year of Congress, Congresswoman Kiggans returned more than $1.5 million to Southeast Virginians, brought in nearly $14 million in funding for community projects, had 2 bills passed by the House, introduced 12 bills and cosponsored 138 bills.
- As a former Navy helicopter pilot, Navy spouse, and Navy Mom, Congresswoman Kiggans is a tireless advocate for the military community in Congress, using her position to introduce a bipartisan bill to support service member mental health and fight for better mental health care for service members.
- As a former Adult-Geriatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, Congresswoman Kiggans has fought to expand medicare coverage and improve access to virtual healthcare.
